Principal Report

Parking

Thank you to our school community for supporting the school during the building works. I understand parking can be challenging at drop off and pick up time. Parking is available on streets surrounding the school, including Last Street and Gilbert Street. Please do not park across footpaths as this forces pedestrians to walk onto the road.  When parking around the turning circle on Noone Street, staff and families are asked to park approximately 90 degrees across the circle, backing into the fence. This allows more people to park around the circle. Please be mindful of short term parking spaces in front of the school. Parents use these spaces to drop off and pick up children from childcare, and usually have children’s belongings to carry.

Five Day Kindergarten

We are excited to announce that our Five Day Kindergarten Program will continue in 2026. As part of our ongoing commitment to providing the best possible educational experience for our students, we will continue to offer both a 3-day and a 5-day Kindergarten program. This initiative aims to provide greater flexibility and support for our students and their families, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive in an environment best suited to their needs.

This trial aims to assess the effectiveness and benefits of offering a more flexible Kindergarten schedule. Our goal is to create safe and adventurous learning environments where every child can grow academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually within our Catholic learning environment. By providing these options, we strive to meet the varied needs of our families and support each child's unique development journey.

All Kindergarten students will participate in a three-day core program, held on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. These core days, in addition to physical and social development, will focus on essential academic learning, including comprehensive Literacy and Numeracy programs. The 3-day program is designed to gently introduce your child to the world of learning, allowing them to acclimate to the school environment at a comfortable pace.

In addition to the core three days, we are offering an extended five-day program for families who believe their child is ready for a more immersive Kindergarten experience. The additional days, Thursday and Friday, will emphasise social, fine, and gross motor development, complementing the academic curriculum of the core days.

Fire Education Week

A firefighter from the Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) is visiting our school next week to present a Home Fire Safety Program to our Prep to Grade 6 students.

Kindergarten students, whilst not receiving a structured lesson, can expect a visit from the firefighter who will leave some free fun activities for the students to complete.

The age appropriate program is designed to raise fire awareness in children and includes fun in class activities, videos, activity books, giveaways and a new kids website tfskids.com.au.

Parents and other family members are also encouraged to participate by reading the information and assisting your child with the after school activities.

The TFS aims to deliver appropriate fire safety education to every primary school child in Tasmania and is part of the TFS’s ongoing commitment to create a fire safe Tasmania.

Key Fire Safety Messages include,

Wake up - Install a smoke alarm in every bedroom

Plan and practice a home fire escape plan with the whole family

In a fire crawl low and go, go, go to the nearest exit

In an emergency call triple zero

Keep flammable material at least two metres from the heater

If your clothes catch fire, stop, drop, rock and roll

Keep matches and lighters away from children

Cooking - Turn it off before you turn away

Cool a burn under cold water for at least 20 minutes

Most house fires can be avoided. Make your home fire safe
